candy from strangers is a terrible holiday. “
She presses herself against his side and scowls at the chill
in the air, wishing she could just be back in her room working
with the chemistry set she’d received earlier in the year for her
birthday. She’d hardly had time to touch it in between studies,
and now that she finally had a free moment, Robert was insist-
ing upon all these dreadful things that “ normal ” children did.
